Emergency Room Billing & Payment Information

Eldridge Emergency Room

Billing Process

Your emergency room co-pay is collected when you visit. Two claims are then sent to your insurer: one for the facility and one for the physician.

Radiology, pathology and cardiology reports are included in the facility bill, rather than charged as separate reports.

Eldridge Emergency Room is out of network with insurance benefit plans. Emergency visits are processed at in-network benefit levels as required by applicable law.

Important Emergency Facility Level Note

Each visit includes a facility fee supporting the staffing, equipment and readiness needed for emergency care.

The fee reflects clinical acuity: presenting concerns, symptoms, history, examination, severity, medical decisions, underlying conditions and test results. Acuity is graded as:

  • Minimal
  • Moderate
  • High

Understanding Your EOB and Bill

  1. About a month after your visit

Your insurer sends an Explanation of Benefits (EOB). It shows care received, insurance payments and anticipated patient responsibility. An EOB is not a bill.

  2. Usually 2–4 weeks after the EOB

If a balance remains after insurance benefits are applied, Eldridge sends a bill. In-network adjustments may make it lower than the EOB estimate.

Frequently Asked Questions

I’m confused about some of the different terms used for payment. How do insurance benefits work for an Emergency Room (ER) visit?
Co-pay:
Your plan’s payment due at service; it can vary by plan and care setting.
Deductible:
The amount you pay before insurance begins contributing.
Co-insurance:
Your percentage of charges after meeting the deductible. Depending on your plan, a co-pay may also apply.
What is an E.O.B.?

An Explanation of Benefits summarizes billed services, insurer payments and the amount that may be your responsibility. It is not a bill.

I just received my EOB and the “out-of-pocket cost” is concerning me.

The EOB is an estimate. Insurance payments and required adjustments can reduce your actual balance. Contact Billing Services to review it.

I need an itemized bill; can Eldridge Emergency Room provide this?

Yes. You can request a breakdown of facility services, physician services and charges from your visit at any time.

I have questions about my bill. Who should I contact?

Contact Billing Services for explanations of charges, insurance adjustments, claim status or remaining balances. Our team will help resolve discrepancies.
